At the southern end of the Lagoon, The Lido is the largest of Venice's islands.
This provides a marvellous alternative to staying in the main part of the city.
The Lido has an eight-mile expanse of beach. This, at the turn of the 19th century,
made it Europe's premier resort and an essential stopping point on the Grand Tour.
If you arrive by train, your starting point is Santa Lucia railway station.
The vaporetto (water bus) stop is just outside it, and your trip to the apartment
is a sightseeing tour in itself. Take the Number 1 - it takes you on a ride through
the Grand Canal lasting about 50 minutes. Or hop on the 51 for a more direct to route to the Lido (35 minutes).
