Beware,
you need computer and network skills to install ASPPack GroupWare
!
1)
Checking and Installing softwares needed to run the Instant Intranet
ASPPack GroupWare
If
you want to run the ASPPack Groupware you have to check that you
have the correct configuration and softwares for running ASP 3.0
and to access databases using ADO (ActiveX Data Objects) elements
NB
: Generally the http (Web) servers from Microsoft are located
in the directory c:\InetPub\wwwroot. If this directory does n't
exist on your computer, it may be that you don't have any http
server already installed. Please check with your Local Area Network
administrator if necessary.
-
If you use Windows 2000 Server or Windows 2000 Professional
all the elements you need for running ASPs are supplied on the
CD-ROM, namely the IIS 5.0 server from Microsoft.
To
install IIS 5.0, perform the following steps:
.
From the Start menu, click Control Panel, and then click Add/Remove
Programs.
.
Select Add/Remove Windows Components, select the Internet
Information Services (IIS) component, and then follow the
on-screen instructions.
Note
: IIS 5.0 in Windows 2000 Professional has the following limitations:
10 connections and one Web and one FTP server. In other words,
you cannot create additional virtual Web or FTP servers.
-
If you use Windows XP Professional the installation procedure
is like Windows 2000's one. the Http server is then IIS 5.1. IIS
does not run with Windows XP Home.
-
If you use Windows NT 4 - use the Internet Information
Server IIS 4.0. To install Properly IIS 4.0 under NT4 please follow
the instructions at Microsoft' support site :
http://support.microsoft.com/support/iis/install/install_iis4.asp
-
If you use Windows 98 - use the Personal Web Server (PWS)
included in your Windows 98 CD:
To
start the installation, follow these steps:
.
Insert your Windows 98 CD in its drive.
. Click Start and then click Run.
. In the Run dialog box, type x:\add-ons\pws\setup.exe
. Substitute the letter of your CD drive for x, and click
OK.
. Follow the Microsoft's instructions on your screen
-
if you use Windows 95 - you can use also the PWS. Beware
! Personal Web Server (PWS) is not shipped with Windows 95 !!
Curiously,
to run ASP on Windows 95, you will have to download "Windows
NT 4.0 Option Pack" from Microsoft.
Windows
NT 4.0 Option Pack
-
We do not recommend you use Windows ME as it causes installation
problems and affects some of the ASP functions. See
Microsoft information about this
2)
Downloading and Installing asppack GroupWare
-
Download the .zip file asppackbyitcom3.zip from the download
page
-
Unzip asppackbyitcom.zip under c:\inetpub\wwwroot\ or your IIS
directory
The
zip tool will install the appropriate files needed to run the
intranet in the directory c:\InetPub\wwwroot\asppack.
3)
Specifics manipulations for Windows 2003, Windows 2000 and Windows
XP Pro:
W2003,
W2000, Windows XP Pro with IIS 5 or IIS 5.1 or more: in order
to avoid writing errors on the asppack_v21x.mdb database:
A.
Use the right hand button to click on the file asppack_v21x.mdb.
B. Select the Security tab in "Properties".
C. Check that the following user is listed: IUSR_MyComputer
D. If the user IUSR_MyComputer exists, select the options "Modify
- Read and Execute - Read - Write" for this user.
E. If the user IUSR_MyComputer is not installed, click on the
button Add, and select it in the pop up list. Execute D above.
Why
do you need to do this? Quite simply because when you connect
to the asppack site using IE, even though you are only logging
on as the administrator, when your computer starts-up, it considers
you to be an actual user "IUSR_MyComputer" because you are using
IE under Windows 2000.
Do the same
operation (A, B, C ....) for the directories :
c:\InetPub\wwwroot\asppack
and c:\InetPub\wwwroot\asppack\groupware\
If you don't have access to security tab do this before:
Open Windows Explorer, go to Tools, Folder Options, View and uncheck
Use Simple File Sharing.
4)
Starting Intranet asppack GroupWare
Open
you browser and copy and paste the above address
"http://localhost/asppack/groupware/Identification_site.asp"
Wich
is the default local address of the ASPPack GroupWare onto your
http server.
If
you don't see anything, it means that there is a problem in your
configuration. Please check with your Local Area Network administrator
if necessary, to set up a standard configuration of a Microsoft
http server.
If
you see the Identification Page (we hope ;-)) :
BEWARE,
THE ADMINISTRATOR'S LOGIN AND PASSWORD ARE CONFIGURED AT THE START:
Login : "Administrator"
PassWord : "itcom3"
The
same password "itcom3" is required for the other users of the
demo : pdupont, jsmith et pgonzales
5)
Connection from another computer
If
your computers at your office are connected in a Local Area Network
(LAN) compatible with TCP/IP protocol :
Make
sure that the computer where is locate the Intranet asppack Groupware
runs the Http server.
On
another computer, open your Browser and type the address of the
Intranet wich is migth be :
http://WebServer/asppack/GroupWare/home.asp
Where
"WebServer" is the name or the IP Address of the computer
where is located the Web Server and the Intranet asppack Groupware.
