Most music includes bar lines, which are just
vertical lines inserted in the staff. This provides a convenient way to mark the
bars. There are 3 kinds of bar lines:
-
Regular bar line.
-
Double bar,
sometimes used to mark a certain dividing point in the music, for example,
right before a key change.
- Fine bar, placed at the end of the
music.
By the way, bars are also called measures.

|
Sometimes the value of the notes do not
conveniently fit into a single bar.
In these situations, notes are tied together across bar lines. This gives
the notes the desired rhythmic value.
