Akabane's Story
A professional courrier and a very mercenary spirit,
Akabane is scary in a way vaguely reminiscent of Hannibal. He is convivial,
neatly dressed and unfailingly polite, even while he's expressing his disappointment
at how weak an opponent you were. Then he chuckles and slices you into pieces.
Y'see, his favorite passtime is killing people. Ginji once pointed out that
Akabane doesn't kill so that he can make his deliveries, he makes deliveries
so that he has a chance to kill. His weapon of choice is, of all things, scalpels.
108 of them, in fact. He usually weilds four almost like claws, but if the opponent
is worthy enough he can toss them with pinpoint accuracy or even control them
with something like telekinesis. The other things in his arsenal are incredible
speed and a very strategic mind.
Akabane doesn't care about people, or things, or money. He says himself he has no friends or allies. The only thing that matters to him is entertainment, which means fighting and killing. The only thing he wants is to know just how good he can get. The only way to insult Akabane is to bore him. If one is not Ban or Ginji, that usually results in instant death. The Get Backers pair get a special exemption because somewhere along the line they managed to intrigue him. So for now, he keeps his eye on them. What he eventually intends to do, he's not telling.
SPOILERS
(black on black, so highlight it to read)
You may be wondering how Akabane manages to carry 108
scalpels around all the time. With his trenchcoat it's pretty plausible, but
he doesn't keep them in there. They are actually hidden inside is body.
He can pull them out of each palm at will. He also has complete control of what
the scalpels are made out of. The first time he fought Ginji, they were made
out of steel. Using that to his advantage, Ginji turned his electricity powers
onto magnetism mode and yanked all 108 of them out in one go. Since then, Akabane
has shifted the material to titanium and ceramic.
Incidentally, that fight was the only time that Akabane has definitively lost. That someone could do that to him is what has so intrigued him about GB. One gets the impression he's waiting to find out who is better, Ban or Ginji. Then he can fight the best and maybe finally figure out just how far his abilities go.
Next to nothing is known about Akabane's history. Somewhere in the past, he managed to acquire a thick, ugly looking scar that runs from collarbone to navel, and a hindu-ish looking tattoo on his left upper-arm. I have no clue what the tattoo means, but the scar, wherever he got it, may be the origin of Akabane's penchant for scalpels. He once said that anything that mixes with his blood becomes his weapon, and if whatever made that scar required surgery.... well.
