Emishi's Story
An Osaka-dialect speaking comedian (gee, who would
have thought of that combination), Emishi brings bright hilarity even to Mugenjou.
A resident there for who knows how long, he is a former member of VOLTS. He
never made it to the level of the Four Kings, instead staying mostly a sidekick
to Shido.
He has no special powers like Ginji's lightening or Shido's Hundred Beast Faces, but living in Mugenjou has given him superhuman strength, reflexes and healing powers. His weapon of choice is an unusual one; a short wooden rod with thick rope attached to each end called a muchi. It's sort of like a pair of whips stuck together at the end. The style he uses is called "Rouran Butouben". For all his joking, Emishi is very adept at wrapping an enemy up in the muchi's coils and then spinning them faster than any top. Then they land, which is the real killer (pardon the pun. ^.^)
Why Emishi is in Mugenjou and how he got there are complete unknowns.

As for Emishi's origins, Osaka is
as good a guess as any. However, his ancestry lies in China. Long, long ago,
there used to be a little kingdom called Rouran (Orchid Tower) along the Chinese
end of the Silk Road. It was destroyed by invaders who knows how long ago, but
its survivors apparently moved to Japan. Emishi is one of their descendants.
Due to some event in his past, Emishi has developed an extremely protective attitude towards women. Not that this makes him any less cheesy when he tries to actually deal with the fairer sex, but hey, he tries. In volume 20 he even brings a bouquet of flowers to Sakura, offering them to her with the goofiest expression on his face and the line "I found some flowers! Here, the prettiest one for the prettiest lady." She giggles and accepts, Emishi blushes. heheh. The beginnings of something, maybe?
