Himiko's Story
It’s hard sometimes to remember that Himiko is only 16, what with her high reputation as a professional Courier and obvious experience in the field. It’s never said when she started work as a Courier, but I’m sure it was at least a couple of years ago.

Working for a living is something Himiko is no stranger to. Raised by her older brother Yamato (her parents are never mentioned), from a young age she was essentially apprenticed to him in both of his specialties; thievery and the Seven Poison Perfumes. Given her present skill level, she was an exceptionally good student. Teamed with Ban, the three made a fairly good, and for all appearances, happy living.

Again, no time frame is given, but a goodly while back, Ban supposedly killed Yamato. Himiko was extraordinarily fond of her older brother, and has since nursed quite the grudge against Ban. After their first big clash during the Platnum Melon recovery job she gave up on trying to kill him, but nowhere does it say that she’s completely forgiven him yet.

Surprisingly, for one of the nation’s most renowned Couriers, Himiko has no personal mode of transport. The legal age for driving in Japan is 18, but I doubt Himiko is incapable of forging a drivers license. She is a decent driver, though, for all that she’s technically too young. Perhaps she employs some of her former thieving skills and “borrows” whatever ride is available at the time. ^.^

Not that the lack hinders her in any way. Himiko earned her reputation. She is exceptionally good at what she does, whether she works in a team or by herself. If trouble shows up, she is well equipped to deal with it. Her main weapon, of course, are the Seven Poison Perfumes she carries. In actuality, she has more along the lines of 1,500 different Perfumes at home, but she takes only the seven most effective ones for any particular mission. Backing that up is a decent chunk of hand-to-hand combat knowledge and enough creativity to use it well.

As a result, she has a predictable amount of pride. …er, well, maybe a little bit more than a predictable amount. Not that she’s a braggart. Most of the time Himiko is very professional, calm and mature. However, butt into a fight where you’re not wanted or treat her like a child in any way and you’d better have a fire extinguisher handy. Hevn also has a talent for bringing out the 16-year-old in her. Those two bicker and snipe at each other constantly, in a way very reminiscent of the teasing antagonism between Ban and Shido.

SPOILERS (black on black, so just highlight to read)
Anything and everything odd about the past and events surrounding Himiko can be boiled down to two words: Voodoo Child (in the anime Lost Children). Himiko herself is completely clueless about it, knowing only that those words apply to her. Ban knows, and he‘s doing his best to keep his mouth shut. The only things he’s let slip so far are these; something big is going to happen when Himiko turns 17, and he’d made a promise with Yamato to keep Himiko safe. There have been a couple references to Himiko and witches, so there could be a connection there, I’m not sure.

There is a definite connection between “Voodoo Child” and Yamato’s death. Ban never denied killing Yamato, essentially in cold blood. Himiko still hated Ban for that, even if she stopped actively trying to kill him. But during the Kami no Kijutsu arc, Himiko pulls a card that summons Yamato back from the dead, sort of. He tells Himiko that Ban didn’t kill him willingly, but when the choice is either Yamato’s life now or Himiko’s life later...
