Where it All Went

Y'know, for a pair of professionals completing jobs that pay them $3,000, $5,000, $20,000 and even sometimes $100,000, you've gotta wonder why they're still bumming free drinks off of Paul, sleeping in Ban's Super Beetle and bathing in a park water fountain.  So where the heck has all that money gone?!  Well, they do have the worst luck with money that the world has ever seen, but still!  Let's count and see.
(note: This is the manga storyline, so there are a few non-anime incidents listed)

JOB #1

Manga Volume 1
Act 1- Enter Get Backers!
Incident "The Tiger Cub Incident".  This particular incident took place before the start of the manga, so no details are known.
Pay $300
Where it Went Parking ticket.  Ban hates paying the $2-3 it takes to park in legal parking lots, so he invents spots to park elsewhere.  This wouldn't be a problem if he didn't get caught and towed so often.

JOB #2

Manga Volume 1
Act 1- Enter Get Backers!
Incident "Juu-en-kun. The Dime Boy."  A snotty little brat of an elementary schooler hires GB to get his cards back from the playground bully.  Talk about taking advantage of the desperate.  The guys are a whole 10 yen (about a dime) short of affording a soda out of a machine.  It'd be their first real sustenance in 3 days.  There was no way they'd turn down the kid, and the little snot knew it.
Pay $.10
Where it Went Vending machine.  The second they put in the coin, out popped a bottle-- of water.  The brat jammed something into the button for that particular choice, so they'd be stuck with it.  ……Of course, had either Ban or Ginji been thinking, they'd have realized mini-marts sell boxed juices for much less than vending machine prices.     -.-;;

JOB #3

Manga Volume 1
Act 1- Enter Get Backers!
Incident "The Old Man's Daughter."  A friendly homeless bum offers past-sell-date rice balls to our two starving Heroes and in thanks Ginji listens to the old man's plea to be reunited with the daughter he sold to the mafia.  The pay was piddling, so Ban didn't want to take the job, but where Ginji goes…
Pay A glass jar with a little pocket change, maybe $6-7.  Thugs hit the old man before GB gets back from the job, and all that's left is $1.
Where it Went Who knows.  Probably another can of soda from a vending machine.

JOB #4

Manga Volume 1
Act 2- Steal Back the Past!
Incident "The Lucky Cat."  Maneki-neko.  Cute, porcelain cat figures with one paw raised and a gold yen coin.  Considered lucky charms, many old Japanese stores have a maneki-neko on display somewhere prominent.  One pretty nurse's family had their giant, heirloom maneki-neko stolen, and the store's profits took a sudden downturn.  A cockamamie story, but considering what she's paying, who cares?
Pay $10,000
Where it Went Hevn pulled $3,000 off the top for her commission on finding the job, and the celebration bash at the Honky Tonk took a nice chunk afterwards.  ($250 for a sushi platter…?)  I think they did get to keep at least a small amount of it, though.

JOB #5

Manga Volume 2
Act 2- Steal Back the Past!
Incident "Find my Fiancé."  Well, the pretty nurse's cockamamie story really was nothing but bull.  She wasn't after the cat so much as the disk hidden inside of it, and if said disk hadn't fallen out into Ginji's bag, (GB got the cat back, but they never promised it'd be in one piece…) the invincible duo might have been safe.  Instead, they get to take a tour through an illegal involuntary-organ-donor factory and meet Hishiki Ryuudou!
Pay A nice fat envelope packed with $100 bills, but Ban shows that he's a big softie on the inside and only takes 5.
Where it Went Parking ticket.  The fiance ended up being one of those "involuntary organ donors", and needed more hospital stay to recover.  GB goes to visit, but does Ban pay to park in the hospital lot?  Nooooo…….

JOB #6

Manga Volume 2-3
Act 3- Retrieval Agents VS. Delivery Agents
Incident "The Platinum What?!"  Perhaps the first truly serious job GB undertakes, the target is a mysterious Box.  They know where it is, but first the Invincible Pair has to get through the nastiest Courier team ever assembled: Mr. No Brakes, Lady Poison, and Dr. Jackal!
Pay Well, the client did offer $20,000 and a year's free rent on a really nice condo, but Ban had a hunch and instead barters both cash and condo away for 10% of what's in the Box.
Where it Went On the floor, likely.  As per their agreement, Ban and Ginji got 10% of what was in the box-- 10% of a melon. For once, neither of them was really hungry at the time.

JOB #7

Manga Volume 3-4
Act 4- Steal Back the Sound of Life
Incident

"Swapped Out Stradivarius."  Blind violinist Madoka Otowa has her precious Stradivarius stolen by rival Akutsu.  The whole Honky Tonk crew gets in on the fun in this particular romp through a mansion, and Ginji's old friends-slash-subordinates Kadzuki and Shido make their entrances.

Pay No concrete figure was ever really mentioned in the discussions, but Madoka hands over $3,000.
Where it Went I think this is the first nice-sized paycheck that they actually keep!  I doubt it lasts long, though.  The beetle went through quite a bit of trauma in the match against Maguruma, and car repairs don't come cheap.  There's the cell phone to get reactivated and of course Hevn's commission.  Plus, they're still splurging on those $250 sushi platters…

JOB #8

Manga Volume 5
Act 5- Steal Back the Legendary 13th Sunflower
Incident "Exactly Who are you Working For?!"  Another job brought in by Hevn, you know it's not going to be simple.  This time GB starts out working for the president of a large department store chain, taking the job of retrieving a stolen painting-- Vincent Van Gogh's 13th Sunflower (that Van Gogh only ever painted 12 is a small side-detail).  But somewhere in the middle of the mission, the Invincible Pair swap sides and end up helping the thief, Clayman.
Pay Clayman offers $18,000...
Where it Went …but the guys insist on using the whole amount to buy one of her paintings instead, never mind that every single last one of them are forgeries.  Clayman appreciated the gesture, though.

JOB #9

Manga Volume 5-11
Act 6- To Mugenjou! The Battle for the "IL"
Incident "MUGENJOU."  GB, Shido, Kadzuki, Akabane, Hevn and Himiko stage a frontal assault on Ginji's former empire in this longest of story arcs.  Old friends square off against old friends, new friends are made, and in the end the mystery of Mugenjou itself only gets deeper.
Pay The Japanese government itself hired everyone with the promise of $50,000 apiece in cash, $5,000 up front and the rest upon delivery.
Where it Went

Well… when dealing with deep and dark government secrets, you can't expect to get out with what you're told.  The mysterious masked agents who hired everyone apparently never intended on paying the $45,000 balance.  Poor Ban is in shock for hours. ^.^  The total of $10,000 that Ban and Ginji did receive doesn't last very long.  Car insurance, cell phone, lunch, Hevn's commission and a doctor's bill eat over half of it.  They actually do intend on paying off some of their loans, but upon hearing exactly how much they owe, Ban panics.  Not that he'd admit this, mind you, but he does, and hence hatches some of the most hair-brained get-rich-quick gambling schemes I've ever heard of.  To make a long, and embarrassing, story short, GB loses every last penny.

JOB #10

Manga Volume 11-14
Act 7 - Steal Back the Lost Arms
Incident “The Lost Arms of the Venus de Milo.”  A jealous lover has teamed up with a Drug King to attach arms to the Venus De Milo, and Clayman hires GB to grab the arms first.  Shido and Emishi get on the bandwagon, aiming to steal back a Venus De Milo copy made entirely of hyped up crack!  …..yeeeeeeeesh, what a weird plot.  But anyway, old acquaintances come popping out of the woodwork in this one, including the Miroku Seven, who are dead set on seeing Ban dead!
Pay Clayman first offers $10,000.  But since the Invincible Pair accidentally dumped the arms into the ocean, she only forked over half that, $5,000.  They should be happy they got paid at all, considering the begging they had to do to get half.   -.-;;
Where it Went The next day, Clayman sends them a bill for the rubber dolls Ban used against Akabane-- $3,000!!  Then there was the doctor’s bill for Ban’s arm… those dratted $250 sushi platters… lunch the next day… the $500 cup Ban broke in his rage against Clayman…  In other words, they’re dead broke again.

JOB #11

Manga Volume 14
Act Rest 3 - Hot Springs Vacation
Incident “The Onsen Incident.”  Back in debt again, the Invincible Pair takes on a job to recover some jewelry that was stolen at an expensive outdoor hot springs resort.  In the process they happen to peep in on this pretty long haired girl--- waitaminute, where’d all that string come from?
Pay $1000, I think.  Oh, and a free night's stay at the resort, which goes for about $500 a person.
Where it Went Most of it went to finish paying off what they owed Clayman. Then they go get lunch and the Beetle isn't where Ban parked it…

JOB #12

Manga Volume 14-18
Act 8 - "Kami no Kijutsu"
Incident "The CCG from Hell".  Five school kid runaways and a card game that effects Reality in really painful ways.  GB is hired by the kids' parents to drag them home, but the kids don’t want to go.  The kicker is all the guys special skills and powers are utterly useless against the kids, even Ginji’s lightening.  Unfortunately for GB, Kadz, Himiko and Hevn, the kids’ card magic can do some real damage to them!  So Ban hunts up an old (99 years old, to be exact) acquaintance who’s a card magic expert, Spanish immigrant Maria Noches, and the whole crew learns how to beat the kids at their own game.  But the 5 runaways are only the front line, and in the background are players that touch on both Ginji’s and Kadz’s pasts.
Pay ?? ...as far as I know, no real figure is actually mentioned.
Where it Went

Ginji's medical bill.  He fell into a hole.  ...er, well, jumped into a hole, actually.  Y'see, with the card magic he walked across said open holes no problem, but after all the cards burned, he wanted to see if he still had the power left... ~_~;;
He did get a nice fruit basket from Akabane, though.

JOB #13

Manga Volume 18-19
Act 9 - Steal Back the Marlin Red
Incident “GB as a Horror Manga.”  An elderly wine expert hires GB to get back 13 bottles of wine that were dredged up from a sunken WWII German U-Boat.  However, also after the wine is a German general look-alike who’s really a vampire and a mysterious, extremely feminine looking guy who controls hornets.  Oh, and guess what, one of those 13 bottles is supposedly a special elixir that can turn people into vampires!
Pay o.O   $100,000
Where it Went ...up in smoke, pretty much.  The guys only managed to bring back 2 out of the promised 13 bottles, so they get billed for the price of the lost 11!!  Fortunately, the client is a nice guy, so he gives them two bottles of good wine.  Still in shock Ban opens and downs most of one and Ginji starts sipping at the other.  Then Paul sees the labels… and recognizes them.  One unopened bottle can go for as much as $50,000 at the right auction.  Two bottles = $100,000.
-_-;;;;
Whoops.
