Ren's Story
Granddaughter to Medicine Man Gen, I'd bet she's lived in Mugenjou her entire life. She has no weird powers, and likely only knows enough about fighting to keep herself out of life-threatening trouble. At first sight and for a good bit afterwards, Ren really looks and acts the boy. It's pretty darn difficult to tell that she's a girl, actually.

Ren probably spends most of her day doing legwork and odd jobs for her grandfather. She's the one who gathers all the pharmaceutical ingredients Gen needs for his medicines, and likely most of the methodical mapping explorations of Lower Town get written up on Ren's daily "To Do" list.

She also was, and still is, a huge fan of Ginji's old gang, VOLTS. During Raitei's reign as Lower Town's emperor, VOLTS itself had a huge band of groupies and hangers-on. Ren was likely one of them.

Ren is physically unable to leave Mugenjou. A second, half-dimension exists simultaneously with Reality there, and while most residents can interact in both, some people are confined to the half-dimension only. Ren is one of those.

Nastily enough, there's no way to tell which one you're in. Ren tried to follow Ginji out of Mugenjou after the "IL" operation was finished, but once she crossed a certain boundary, her body suddenly started going transparent. It was the first time she realized she was trapped in Mugenjou.

The how and why of that half-dimension has yet to be explained.
